More Details on Silicon Graphics' SGI 1600SW Display

I can't say enough about Silicon Graphics' 1600SW TFT display. Cool looking in 1998, it's cool looking today; but as with all SGI technology, it's a little strange (that's not a bad thing). This is not a monitor that you can just bring home, plug in, and go to work on. You've got to understand it first. But it's well worth the effort, for even over 10 years later it doesn't get any better than this.

To start with, the 1600SW has blazing fast pixel update. You know that streaking and blurring you normally have to be concerned with, especially when you're playing video games, using a TFT? You won't find it here. That's what I mean by lfast pixel update.

But, get this--they're still the only TFT that will support a native 16:9 resolution. In case you don't know what that means, producers/users can fit together two side-by-side screens stacked up with work or projects with no problem. This also makes them much better than others for working with digital video. (I should point out that a catch with this is that since this makes the native resolution 1600×1024 @ 60Hz, anything else is going to look strange and screwy, and that may happen to you as you adapt the 1600SW to your machine.)

Now, the 1600SW has a connector that's OpenLDI. When TFT was still in the development stage, everyone except SGI was going for the cheaper alternative--DVI. OpenLDI is more expensive, but superior. The ROI is far better than with DVI. In other words, you're getting what you pay for. There's usually a good reason why something is more expensive than an alternative to that something. I don't think one should cheap out on computer equipment--not even monitors.

This does make it so that the connector and signal are completely different, however, so you can't plug it into a DVI card. The cards that the 1600SW will natively support are: 3D Labs Oxygen VX1-1600SW; Number Nine Revolution IV; and, Formac ProFormance 3 (Mac card).

As far as machines that will natively support the monitor, there are once again three, and they are all made by SGI: SGI's 320; 540; and O2/O2+. Furthermore, they need a small credit-card sized adapter card to support the 1600SW. This card fits onto the motherboard through a custom connector. An LVDS connector is provided for the on-board graphics. These cards will not work on any other machine, either.

So, if you have a modern non-SGI machine, you can get an MLA (MultiLink Adapter) also made by SGI and get LVDS output from DVID or HD15 input. But there's also PIX Solutions' Pix Link adapter--this is a DVI-to-LVDS converter. My Pix Link has served me flawlessly.

Then there's the PCI-based pass-through adapter card developed by original head engineer of the 1600SW development team Dan Evanicky and Oscar Medina. The power here comes directly from the PCI-bus. This is a convenient solution, too.

So, while it's not quite the simplest TFT to get set up, the SGI 1600SW will pay you back magnificently for your time and expense. You'll be thankful for it in the end.

Certification Requirements For Beginning IT Professionals

Those who are interested in going to work in the information technology field are probably aware that certifications are very important. When hiring IT workers, employers frequently look for candidates who have specific certifications.

For entry-level positions, employers want to see certifications that validate that applicants truly have basic skills and an aptitude for IT work. Some companies will not even consider hiring entry-level candidates who do not have at least one professional certification. Even in cases where certification isn't mandatory, it is certainly something IT employers view favorably.

Which Certifications Do I Need?

There are many different types of IT skills and jobs. Accordingly, there are many different certifications, each of which validates a specific skill set. The type of certification that you will need depends upon a number of factors, including: the industry you want to enter, the geographic location where you want to work, a company's requirements, your background, and many other variables.

Popular Entry-Level Certifications:

Some of the most popular certifications for entry-level computer technical support professionals include:

• Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)
• CompTIA Network+
• CompTIA Security+
• CompTIA A+
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Keep in mind that this is not an all-inclusive list of entry-level IT certifications. Be sure to research your geographic market, industry, and type of position desired to learn which types of certifications will be the most beneficial to you.

How Do I Get Certified?

Before you take a certification exam, it is a good idea to make sure that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful. There are a number of different practice tests for most certification exams. These practice tests can give you an idea of whether or not you are ready to sit for certification, or if you need to complete additional training prior to testing.

If you do need additional training, check out your options for online training as well as instructor-led training in your local area. Once you have the skills you need, then it may be time to register for your chosen exam.

Each vendor has different policies, fees, and requirements. Most IT certification exams are available at your local PearsonVUE testing center. Choose a convenient, comfortable testing center that meets your needs. Exam vendors frequently offer special pricing and promotions, so you should check for the best deals on certification testing vouchers. Your local testing center is often a good resource for information about the best deals on test vouchers.

How to Fix a Windows Registry Error Without Spending a Fortune

How to fix a Windows registry error is often the problem of the average computer user. This problem often results in the junking of a perfectly good CPU, a ton of expenses, or a broken monitor screen. Whatever the cause, registry errors can easily become the most annoying problems you may experience.

All Windows operating systems, no matter how updated or advanced it is, eventually experience a registry error at least once. A registry error message appearing on the desktop is the computer's way of telling the user that there is something wrong in the computer registry.

You may liken the Windows registry to your own brain. Have your daily dose of information feeding and you go through the day fit as a tree. But increase that dose for a few days and you will find yourself burned out. The Windows registry is the storage area for the computer's logs regarding programs, applications, operations, and configurations. These tend to grow in volume over time and every time the computer is used. Eventually, the registry becomes full enough to cause problems.

Actually, there is no way you can predict when the computer will be experiencing registry errors, unless you have become such an expert in computer usage that you have been experiencing errors at least three times in the same time period. But the things to look out for are generally a slowed down operating system, error messages popping up once in a while, and occasional system crashes. When you start experiencing one or all of these symptoms, then it is time to do a registry repair.

Start by downloading a registry cleaner. It is generally a freeware all over the web; just do not download one what you do not know about. It is best to consult with a technician to find out what registry cleaners are reliable and trustworthy. Install the program and run it to get a list of all the obsolete and unnecessary information stored in your registry. Delete them and voila! Your computer should not be experiencing the same errors for a long time again.

Just always remember, a computer is a machine. Do not expect it to be working perfectly forever. Get to know how to deal with system problems when they arise. Taking the time to know how to fix a Windows registry error actually means investing in lesser expenses in maintaining your computer.

When the Need to Fix a Runtime Error and DLL Errors Makes You Go Crazy

Usually, the need to fix a runtime error and DLL errors is enough to make someone go ballistic on his computer. All computer users have encountered errors at least one time. While using the computer, something suddenly pops out on the screen that stops your work instantly. And before you know it, you are frantically pulling out your hair trying to figure out how to fix it. But before you take a crowbar and take your computer apart, try to spend some time getting to know the problem and how to fix it.

An error is actually your computer's way of telling you that there is something wrong with a particular program in your computer and that it is not running well. This problem can be a slight one, or it can be so severe so as to make your system crash. So, do not get angry when a popup keeps appearing on your screen telling you that something is wrong.

A runtime error exists when one program is in conflict with another. In other words, a program cannot function properly with another. This usually happens when you have a lot of programs in your computer.

Here are some signs of a runtime error:

• Information traffic overflow in the registry;
• Errors requiring technical support;
• Not enough computer memory;
• Failure to change subscripts;
• Lack of stack and storage space;
• Errors in DLL loading; and
• Incapability of the computer to support DLL.

Of course, it does not take a computer wizard to figure out what is wrong with the computer. All you have to do is to know the nature of these errors. By knowing when to recognize an error, you can discover how to fix it before you break your computer to pieces.

So, what can you do to fix these errors? The first thing you should do is to clean your registry. You should get a registry cleaner to fix your computer errors. Just because the error says that a particular file is in conflict with another does not mean that you should delete the file. Get a cleaner from your computer technician. You can download it also from trusted sources in the Internet.

Before you go clean your registry, make sure you have a backup of all your important files. Just in case you forget, most registry cleaners have an undo option. Run the cleaner and take note of all the listed errors. That way, you do not delete something important.

There is really nothing to worry about if you get a computer error. Just knowing how to fix runtime error and DLL errors can save you a ton of worry and frustration.

How Do I Remove Antivirus 360 Off My Computer? - Antivirus 360 Removal Guide

Are you constantly receiving a barrage of false security alerts stating that your computer has a variety of security risks? Do you always get Pop-Ups saying that your computer is infected and you should install antivirus 360 in order to protect yourself? Well both these situations indicate that your computer has been infected with a Vundo Trojan Virus and if you installed antivirus 360 on your computer then I'm afraid you are severely affected. You see antivirus 360 is a rogue spyware program, whose sole purpose is to infect your system to collect valuable information and squeeze money out of you. If you have installed Antivirus 360 on your PC then you must remove the program asap as it is considered one the most dangerous forms of spyware around these days. So if you were wondering about "How do I remove antivirus 360 off my computer?" then worry no more as with the right antivirus 360 removal tool you can rid yourself of this problem within minutes.

If you haven't already realized this, Antivirus 360 is the latest version of the infamous rogue spyware antivirus 2008 and 2009, instead this time it has just taken a new name so it can further disguise itself. The name sounds very similar to well respected security tool, Norton 360 by Symantec, and it shouldn't be confused with it as Norton 360 is a fully legitimate anti-virus program.

Now the antivirus 360 application usually makes its way onto a user's computer via a video codec, which contained a Vundo Trojan, zlob or other malware. You can also get infected by downloading corrupt files from torrent websites, P2P networks (Limewire, Bearshare etc), or by simply visiting malicious websites.

Once the program has been installed it will flood the user with numerous pop-ups indicating that your computer has many virus infections and system risks, in reality all these viruses are completely imaginary and fake. After these notifications Antivirus360 advertises as an effective program that is able to fix all these problems, and of course you have to pay for it (this is how they make their money). The program is extremely dangerous because when it scans your computer it actually list legitimate windows applications and programs as infected files, and when it deletes them in attempt to "fix the error"; it can cause windows to become unusable. As a parasite, Antivirus360 can cause many serious problems for users, it can slowdown computers, limit connection of internet, increase loses of personal data (credit card numbers, bank details, passwords etc.), and even brake your machine. It is strongly recommend that you scan your system with a reputable spyware remover program to completely remove antivirus 360 and avoid any further problems.

Manual methods of deletion do exist for getting rid of the antivirus 360 application; however they are not as effective at completely removing the virus when compared to a legit antivirus 360 removal tool. You will have to use the windows registry (only recommended for advanced computer users) and locate all the files individually to get rid of it, and if you delete something valuable it cannot be reversed, so you run the risk of destroying your entire operating system. Plus manually removing the virus isn't going to prevent or keep your computer protected from future virus threats.

Nonetheless if you still wish to manually delete the program then you will have to follow these 3 steps:

Step 1: Kill the Antivirus 360 Processes

Step 2: Remove Antivirus 360 files, folders and all associated Antivirus 360 DLL files

Step 3: Uninstall Antivirus 360 registry entries using Windows Registry

Detailed instructions of how to carry out each step can be found very easily by conducting a simple search of "How to remove antivirus 360 manually" on Google.

I would have to conclude by saying that the best option for antivirus 360 removal would be to install a good quality Anti-spyware Program and scan your entire system for any Antivirus 360 infections. Automatic removal of Antivirus 360 is always a lot better and complete when compared to any attempts to manually remove Antivirus 360, which could sometimes lead to erroneous results. So if you were trying to figure out the answer to "how to remove antivirus 360 off my computer?" and are not completely aware of all the files and registry entries used by the rogue anti-spyware, then I recommend getting a good antivirus 360 removal tool, and forgot about manual deletion methods. It is the only way to completely remove the virus and keep your computer protected in the future.

What is Win32 Heur and How to Remove Win32 Heur Virus From Your Computer

Computer infected with a virus? People often ask me what is Win32 Heur? Win32 Heur or Win32/Heur is actually a deadly trojan virus that releases a firestorm of malicious activity throughout your computer. If you have come under the attack of this virus then you need to remove Win32 Heur as soon as possible.

A trojan virus is a malicious file or program that gets onto your system by pretending to be benign or desirable. These can be acquired several ways. Among them are:

• Through online P2P networks. Be very careful when downloading files from programs like Bearshare and Limewire. Try to avoid any exe files and video codec installers. These are the most frequent methods of infection.

• Installing any free or low cost programs and applications. Very often these programs are free for a reason. They come bundled with spyware, adware, and viruses. Always perform a quick scan of your computer after installing new software off the net.

• Visiting a website that had planted viruses or browser hijackers that force infected your computer. You are probably well aware of this problem as a bunch of pop ups appear and your browser is redirected. Without excellent real time virus and spyware protection, malware like the Win32 Heur virus can sneak onto your system.

Once your computer is infected, viruses can do a couple of dangerous things that can cause a lot of damage. First they use spyware and keyloggers to record private information like passwords, credit card, and bank account numbers. This is why identity fraud is the fastest growing crime on the internet. Don't allow yourself to become the next victim.

The other dangerous side effect is the corruption of your registry and possible collapse of your computer. The virus can inhabit your registry and alters vital system files. This can cause computer crashing, the windows blue screen, and other malfunctions. It could cost hundreds or even thousands to get it repaired or buy a new system.

In order to remove the virus you need a Win32 Heur removal program. Fortunately I have found one that can not only remove Win32 but also provide real time protection to protect you against future threats.

The Easy Way to Fix Windows Registry Error

The need to fix Windows registry error arises at the least convenient time for most computer users. In most circumstances, the need arises right in the middle of a blissful and speedy session of work or gaming.

Nothing beats that fresh feeling when you start up your computer in a few seconds. The feeling of speed and functionality almost seems to take your breath away. Then suddenly, everything seems to go slow. It takes forever to load your favorite Windows application and it takes even longer to do simple tasks, such as copying and pasting. Worse, a lot of messages start popping up your screen.

It seems that your computer is experiencing a registry problem. The registry is actually your computer's "log book", where all computer processes and application records are stored. This is where all settings and configurations you have set up are stored as well. When you first got your computer system, your registry was barely loaded. After a few months of usage, your registry is already like a balloon ready to pop.

A full registry means a heap of problems for your computer. First, you experience slow operations. You receive pop ups every now and then, notifying you that your computer is experiencing a registry or some other kind of error. Then your computer starts to hang and eventually crashes. Wait a couple more months and you will be sending your computer in for repairs. And that is a lot more expense for you.

When you already know the nature of registry errors, it usually becomes easier to fix it. And the best part of this scenario is you will not have to send your computer to the dealer for repairs.

Fixing registry errors can be as easy as downloading a freeware registry cleaner. Install it and run the scan. After a few minutes or so, you will be presented with a list of all the records you do not need. Feel free to delete them; they are obsolete, anyway. Just do not think that the more you delete, the faster your computer becomes. If you commit the mistake of deleting something important, you might as well get your computer reprogrammed. Just get rid of what your system recommends you to get rid of. When you fix Windows registry error as early as possible, you risk a lot less in having your computer sent in for repairs.

Why is My Internet Explorer So Slow? - A Guide to Speed Up Internet Explorer

Have you been asking yourself, why is my internet explorer so slow? Your connection is fine, yet internet explorer seems to take forever to process information and load pages. This is actually a much more common problem than you may think. Before you toss your computer into the garbage can, why not try to speed up internet explorer the easy way?

The most likely cause of IE being slow is a computer that has not been properly maintained. The problem with most computer users is that they spend all of this money on upgrading and buying new equipment, yet spend nothing to properly maintain it. When the CPU becomes sluggish we simply ask "why is my internet explorer slow" and then go buy a new computer. Well this will make the computer stores very happy. But what if I let you in on a little secret? You can turbo charge your existing computer right now so it runs like it is brand new.

What you need to do is run a full system scan and diagnosis. I promise there are lots of troubled areas of your computer that can be cleaned up and optimized. Lets start with the Windows registry.

The Windows registry is the most important area of your computer. It contains information to run all software and hardware, including Internet Explorer. Yet it is filled with errors, corrupt files, and redundant programs that are doing nothing but taking up space and slowing everything down. Windows does not have an internal tool to clean this up. To speed up internet explorer, the first thing you can do is clean up all the junk out of the registry.

I personally use a program that does this and so much more. It will also remove all the hidden programs running in the background and taking up valuable RAM. This program will perform a diagnosis in your entire computer and provide solutions to make your computer run faster.

So stop asking the question "Why is my Internet Explorer so slow?" Simply scan your computer for free and start speeding it up.

Advances in the Ability to Transfer Programs From XP to Vista

At some point and time you will have to get a new computer. If that day just arrived for you then a very common question many people ask is how best to transfer the data from XP to Vista. The answer that best suits your needs will vary from others.

For those that just use their computer for e-mail and a few word documents you may just want to manually do a data transfer. This can be done by just burning the data to a CD or DVD. You can also use a thumb drive or external USB hard drive to transfer the data over as well. Doing it manually for someone who does not have many files can be a great way to go. This lets you still get that fresh start that so many peopled are looking for.

If you have a ton of custom settings and do not want to have to re-load software programs then you may want to consider using a program that was designed to transfer over not only user profiles but the users software and custom files.

Many people take advantage of the built in Easy transfer wizard that comes with XP and Vista. While this is a nice free tool many find it lacking and rather hard to use. We do recommend you check out Microsoft's website on using the Easy Transfer Wizard if you do not need any software programs to be transferred over. While some have trouble using this program others do not. Some times I have to re-do the transfer 3-4 times to get it to do what I want. You can always purchase data transfer software as well to help make your life a whole lot easier. For the many who are not all that computer savvy this tends to be a far better way to go. Data transfer programs that are easy to use will help you keep your sanity.

You can always hire a pro to do this as well. Most companies will charge around 159 to 359 to do a data transfer. It all depends on how many files and programs the user has. Many companies out there will not transfer over programs. If you still have the install disc then it is recommending by most professional that you just do a fresh install of the program and then migrate over your data into the program. You should always call the manufacture first to ensure the program will work with the newer operating system or platform. Often times it will but you may need to download a newer version or patch.

Antivirus Software Protection

Not having antivirus protection software on your computer is like not insuring your car for the road. No matter how safe of a driver you think you are, there are always others on the roads that are not safe drivers. Anytime you drive a car without car insurance you are taking a big risk. The same applies to not running software on your computer. You are risking damaging your computer and losing valuable data.

There is really no good excuse to not have protective software on your computer. Many sites, such as AVG, offer free virus protection. Some of the highest rated software can be expensive, but, when you take into consideration the priceless information you have on your computer as well as your hard drive, you may find that the cost is actually an investment.

Protecting your computer from dangerous viruses is important. You cannot run your computer safely online without some form of software. It is true that the free software will not detect all viruses. In fact, even the high priced programs cannot detect all viruses. For this reason it is important to run at least two forms of antivirus or spyware programs on your computer.

In the event you have a virus that the protection software did not detect you should contact the manufacturer of the software. Inform them of the virus so they can update their databanks to detect the virus in the future. Once you've found the software that will protect your computer you never have to worry about viruses again.

How to Open Office Documents Through Your Network

In the past, when you need to open office documents that are saved in different computers, you usually have to go to each one, locate the file, and open it from there. If you needed to consolidate all your documents in one computer, you had to copy them all into a portable storage device and save them in one unit, or you had to send them all in your email address and download them. Despite being in the computer age, with the presence of all these high-technology gadgetry, this was still a tedious and very unnecessary task to do. Fortunately, with the use of networking, you no longer have to go through this same act over and over again.

A network, also known as a workgroup, is exactly what it sounds like: it is composed of several computers in a single connection - much like a net. Within this structure, you can access any computer within the group through a single unit, provided that all the necessary parameters and settings are configured first. You can open directories in other computers as if you were directly using it and what is best, you can communicate with other users in the group and even copy or modify the files contained in every unit, for as long as you have the permission to do so. You can access this network over a variety of media, whether it be through a local area network, otherwise known as LAN; through remote access using the Internet, which would need certain software to enable you to do so; Bluetooth®, which must be available and functional in both units; and via a wireless network, whether with the use of the Internet or through a local connection.

In order to work on documents that are contained in other computers, you must first make sure that these computers are connected to the group. At work, home, or in school, there is usually a workgroup designated by a certain name. All the computers must be made members of this network, with the useful directories enabled to be capable of sharing and modification. Usually, the latter function is only available to network administrators and controllers. The basic thing to consider is the drive where you need to obtain the document from is open to sharing.

To open a document, all you have to do is to browse for the document as if you were using the computer where it is saved. You can access this directory through the networking application in your computer. In Windows XP, this would be an application named "My Network Places". Just browse for the document and open it. The corresponding word processing application will then open the document. However, since this accessibility is over the network, you may experience a certain lag in operation. You can overcome this by copying the document into your unit instead and opening it from there. You can also open office documents from other places through the Internet, Bluetooth®, or through a wireless connection using another computer, a laptop, mobile phone, table PC, or a handheld device. Not only will this prove to be more practical, but this solution will also prove to be more convenient.
